What is 10 Better?

You decide what your 10 Better looks like.

10 Better is not about telling people how they should help.

It is not a competition over who gives the most money or volunteers the most hours.

It is a simple question:

Whatever good you are capable of doing today, could you do just a little more?

For one person, 10 Better might mean making a major charitable contribution.

For another, it might mean buying lunch for someone who is hungry.

For another, it might simply mean responding to someone with patience instead of anger.

Someone who already devotes a substantial part of their life to helping others can do 10% more. Someone who has very little money, time or resources can also do 10% more. 10 Better is relative to the individual, not measured against anyone else.

That could mean

  • Giving 10% more to a cause someone already supports.
  • Volunteering a little more time.
  • Helping one additional person.
  • Bringing groceries to someone who needs them.
  • Paying for the next person's coffee.
  • Letting another driver merge instead of blocking them.
  • Honking less.
  • Showing more patience.
  • Giving someone the benefit of the doubt.
  • Passing along something useful instead of throwing it away.
  • Helping a neighbor.
  • Giving an employee an opportunity.
  • Teaching someone something.
  • Calling someone who is alone.
  • Doing one small thing that makes another person's day better.

We do not tell you where to point it

10 Better does not point at a particular religion, political philosophy, charitable organization or type of service. It is deliberately broad. Whatever you already care about, the question is the same one: could you do a little more of it?

Each action may seem insignificant by itself.

The Foundation exists because millions of insignificant actions are no longer insignificant.

If enough ordinary people become just 10 better, the cumulative effect could be extraordinary.

We do not need everyone to completely change his or her life.

We need a great many people to make life just a little better.

Give a little more.

Help a little more.

Listen a little more.

Share a little more.

Be a little kinder.

Then tell someone else.

Don't try to be perfect.

Just be 10 Better.
