Our Story

Helping Kentucky families say yes, one connection at a time

The 10 Better Foundation exists to amplify resources and connections that help grow Kentucky's foster family community.

Because when we all get just 10% better at supporting children and families in need, amazing things happen.

About 8,705 Kentucky children are in out-of-home care, and most of them—57%—are working toward going home to their families. The shortage isn't a simple headcount: Kentucky has more homes than it needs for young children, and far too few for teenagers, for brothers and sisters who want to stay together, and for children with complex medical needs. That gap isn't just a number—it represents children waiting longer for stable placements, foster families stretched too thin, and communities missing opportunities to make a profound difference.

We believe the solution isn't found in government alone, but in the collective action of ordinary people choosing to do extraordinary things. When individuals, families, churches, businesses, and communities each commit to getting just 10% better at supporting foster care, the compound effect is transformational.

Our Approach

Connect

We connect potential foster families with resources, training, and ongoing support to make their journey successful and sustainable.

Amplify

We amplify existing programs and organizations doing great work, helping them reach more families and increase their impact.

Grow

We help grow the foster care community by making it easier for everyone to find their way to contribute and make a difference.

Who is behind this

Trish Wright

Founder, 10 Better Foundation

Trish Wright, founder of the 10 Better Foundation, has had a career surrounded by the most creative of individuals.

She started in consumer research at Foote, Cone & Belding Advertising, finished her MBA, and landed on the account team launching Fancy Feast cat food. From there she moved to Mattel, where she helped run the Barbie business with an incredible team in the late ’80s moving the brand from around $350MM in sales to just under $1Bish. She was also a big advocate for Rollerblade Barbie—who “starred” in the recent blockbuster Barbie movie.

Next came video games. Trish held senior positions at Activision and Interplay Productions, where she was VP of Product Development and ran the product development department during the creation of the original Fallout. Almost 30 years later, Fallout is an Amazon series, and she is thrilled for the amazing design team and that their baby still matters.

After becoming a Mommy to two sassy girls, Trish said good bye to corporate America. She started a local tax preparation firm, Ameri Tax Service, and has spent the past 25 years serving the good people of Long Beach, CA.

Now Trish is looking ahead and has no particular interest in becoming an unproductive “senior.” She is looking to give back and help Americans come together again (and, well yes, she also wants to travel and hike).

So she is putting her efforts into the 10 Better Foundation. The idea behind it is pretty simple: If we all did just 10% more to help those around us, what an amazing impact we would have! She hopes you join in the fun.

At the 10 Better Foundation, we believe if we all act just 10% better we can change our world. Let's encourage each other to consider what their 10% better is. Maybe it's donating 10% more time, more money, more skills.
